Clash Royale: Best Graveyard Decks

A flexible card with some wicked combos.

If there’s any card that’s sure to keep things exciting, it’s Graveyard. Graveyard is one of the most powerful spells in Clash Royale, as well as one of the only ones that can count as a win con. Decks that feature it are usually a lot of fun to play, and they’re also pretty strong. In this article, I’ll take a quick look at how to play Graveyard in general, then we’ll look at three decks that feature it!

How to Play Graveyard

Graveyard is a 5-elixir spell that spawns Skeletons over a period of time. This lasts for 9 seconds, so it’s a fairly long-lasting spell. This steady stream of Skeletons might not sound like a huge threat, but they’re actually capable of doing tons of tower damage. The best way to use Graveyard is to get a tank under their tower to soak up damage, then play the Graveyard while that’s happening. If your opponent doesn’t respond, you’ll be able to get a free tower in no time. And since the Skeletons spawn slowly, they have to respond with something other than just a quick spell, so it wastes a bunch of their time too.

Graveyard decks take many forms since the card itself is quite flexible. You don’t have to use any one strategy to make it work, so you’re able to get pretty creative with them if you want. That being said, there are a few key combos that work best, so it’s not too hard to find synergies that make the decks flow well.

Graveyard + Evo Witch & Hero Giant

Cards:

  • Witch (Evo)
  • Snowball (Evo)
  • Giant (Hero)
  • Graveyard
  • Bowler
  • Hunter
  • Minions
  • Arrows

This is probably the most popular Graveyard deck right now in high level play. The hero Giant card is really strong right now if you’re looking for just a massive generic tank, as it’s easy to support and has a pretty strong ability. The main gameplay loop of this deck centers around playing Giants and backing them up with the evolved Witch. The rest of the deck is mostly focused on defense, with the exception of Graveyard.

Graveyard comes in once the Giant is across the river. While Giant tanks the tower damage, Graveyard is the perfect win con to use to take advantage of the distraction. If you time everything right, opponents will have to respond to both the Graveyard threat and the Giant, which isn’t an easy task. Arrows are usually a good way to protect Graveyard from cards like Minions or Skeletons, and Bowler can substitute for the Giant if you don’t have it when needed. Evolved Snowball is also really strong for clearing out any threats and opening the route to the enemy tower. I like using it to reposition enemy support troops so they can’t reach Giant, or to protect Graveyard from troops like Valkyrie and other AOE damage dealers.

I’d recommend playing this deck reactively. Don’t just play Graveyard immediately and hope it’ll work out. You need to make sure there’s not a Mini P.E.K.K.A. or something similar waiting for your Giant when it gets across the river. This deck has everything needed to win easily with Graveyard, you just have to find the right openings.

Graveyard + Goblinstein & Evo Goblin Cage

Cards:

  • Valkyrie (Evo)
  • Goblin Cage (Evo)
  • Goblinstein (Hero)
  • Graveyard
  • Poison
  • Ice Wizard
  • Guards
  • Barbarian Barrel

This deck features two of the strongest evolutions in the game and one of my personal favorite Heroes, so it’s an easy inclusion. Valkyrie and Goblin Cage as the two evolutions guarantee a strong deck. The evolved Valkyrie is excellent for AOE damage and grouping up enemies in one spot. That creates a strong combo with cards like Poison, Ice Wizard, Barrel, etc. that can make use of the large group of enemies to hit. Plus she’s just a really strong tank in general. Then we have Goblin Cage to make sure that anything which gets past Valkyrie doesn’t make it much further. Goblin Cage’s evolution is easily one of the best evolutions in the game, so I highly recommend it.

Graveyard comes into play here as the main win con other than large pushes (which this deck can make a lot of). While opponents are dealing with the chaos of Goblinstein and the rest of our troops, Graveyard is the perfect card to win the game with. Goblinstein or Valkyrie can both tank for the Graveyard, and Poison can support it. Poison is the best spell to use along with Graveyard since it also lasts a long time. It protects the Graveyard from cheap counters like Guards, Skeleton Army, Minions, and other low-HP troops, so it’s essential.

This deck can be a lot more aggressive than the first one thanks to Valkyrie’s power to defend anything with ease. Since we can make such large pushes with Valkyrie, Goblinstein, Ice Wizard, and more, there’s no reason not to do so. Then Graveyard makes a large push a massive one. You do still have to be careful since these pushes cost a lot of elixir (and so does Graveyard), but in general this deck has tons of potential.

Graveyard + Skeleton King Swarms

Cards:

  • Royal Recruits (Evo)
  • Furnace (Evo)
  • Skeleton King (Hero)
  • Graveyard
  • Goblin Hut
  • Poison
  • Barbarian Barrel
  • Skeletons

This last deck is centered entirely around Skeleton King. The King creates swarms via his ability, and he makes larger ones depending on how many troops have died while he’s been on the battlefield. Due to this, playing other swarms with him works well since it charges this ability. Royal Recruits is great to pair with Skeleton King because of this. The frontline they form across the battlefield is one of the best forms of defense you can have, and the counter-push they create is fantastic as well.

Graveyard works really well along with the Skeleton King because of this ability, but also because he’s a strong tank. The King is the perfect troop to tank for Graveyard, as if you’re able to connect both to a tower, it’ll be gone in seconds. These two cards can form a truly massive swarm when combined, so just watch out for Logs and you’ll be set. We also have Furnace as the second evolution, which works well for dealing with flying troops and supporting the Skeleton King. You can create some truly absurd pushes with the King backed up with Furnace, especially in double elixir when you can easily play Royal Recruits.

This deck can really work with any playstyle. If you play slower you’ll have more time to react to threats with our counters like Furnace, Poison, and Barrel, while if you play fast you’ll have better positioning with the Skeleton King for your own push. There are plenty of reactive cards and plenty that can be spammed in any way you want, so there’s no one “right” way to play this deck.
